We are not sure which is more exciting the fact that Michael and his big brother Don have released their own wines….or that we have the privilege of representing them….
2010 The Cowboy
2010 vintage was a terrifying affair for every winemaker in the Valley until the actual harvest date. The late vintage was a setup for every possible bad scenario that didn’t happen.
A very late growing season turned into the most glorious, long, warm autumn in memory. The disastrous vintage anticipated turned out to be the biggest non-event since Y2K.
The long ripening season actually turned into a profound contributor to the flavour complexity in the wines.
The Sauvignon Blanc was tank fermented with extended lees contact, which brought the all-important mid palate tropical fruit to the classic Sauvignon Blanc. The Schonberger,
an unbelievably aromatic grape, was fermented very cool to preserve its fragrance and cleaned up immediately to emphasize its bright aromas and flavours.
The resulting wine is an elegant, delicate, balanced wine from start to finish. Certainly, the defining attribute of this wine is the stunning fresh and juicy aroma.
